Live on SS2&3: Thu 16.00 & 22:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Portugal Masters and Fyrs.com Open tournaments
After team golf last week it is back to individual matters this week with Martin Kaymer heading the market at 14/1 ahead of the Portugal Masters. The German should go well and it will be a surprise if he is not in the mix on Sunday afternoon.
I also like the chances of Tom Lewis; he secured his card on the European Tour for 2014 with his tremendous finish in the Dunhill Links and has happy memories of this event. Subsequently, he looks overpriced at 55/1 and is a player I am convinced has a really big future in the game.
Matteo Manassero won the BMW Championship at Wentworth in May but has not really kicked on since, however, at 35/1 he has a far better chance than these odds suggest and should give backers a good run for their money this week.
The Frys.com Open looks a really difficult puzzle to solve with the bookies going 20/1 the field. The course will suit the scramblers and Arron Baddeley who is also a hot putter looks way over the odds at 150/1 given that conditions look ideal for him.
Bud Cauley, who was a big hope for 2013, has not performed as well as expected but has a good chance here at 50/1 while 2014 could be a big year for Jimmy Walker who played really well here last year and he looks worth following again at 30/1.
Good luck
