Peter Sharkey previews the weekend SPL action and fancies home wins all the way for Hibs, Killie, Motherwell, St Johnstone and Celtic at 33/1.
It’s a quite intriguing record, but the home team has not scored in the last five league meetings of St Johnstone and St Mirren – who lock horns at McDiarmid Park tomorrow.
Three of those five duels have ended goalless and punters can get 8/1 (Ladbrokes) against it finishing 0-0 again.
The sides are separated by just a single point and it is St Johnstone who kick off as BetVictor’s 13/10 favourites, with the draw marked at 11/5 by Stan James; the visitors are similarly priced by Paddy Power. Mindful that the pair’s last 11 matches have produced only two home victories, bet365’s 6/1 for St Johnstone to win 1-0 still looks attractive.
Hibs (4/6, William Hill) should have little difficulty beating bottom club Dundee at Easter Road and BetVictor’s 7/1 posted about a 2-0 home win has proved understandably popular.
Three of the last five duels involving Kilmarnock and Aberdeen have ended in stalemate and Skybet post 23/10 about it finishing with honours even again tomorrow. BetVictor.com chalk 18/5 about it ending as a score draw, but it’s a surprise to see Killie available at such a lengthy-looking 7/4 (bet365) to secure three points.
Dundee United have already conceded seven away goals this term and they’re likely to ship more when they travel to Motherwell who kick off as Stan James’s 6/4 jollies. The same firm post 3/1 against Motherwell holding the lead at the end of both halves – as United have managed just one away goal this season, that looks a very decent bet indeed.
Finally, Celtic, rightly praised for their midweek Champions League victory in Moscow, host Hearts at Parkhead on Sunday. Unusually, only one team has scored in this fixture in the last eight meetings of the sides, with Celtic winning six of them. Ladbrokes price Celtic at 2/7 to win (Hearts are a 10/1 shot at Paddy Power) and as they’ve managed ten goals without reply in their last three meetings with the Jambos, bet365’s 6/1 for Celtic to win 2-0 cannot be ignored.
