Live on Skysports 3: Thu 19.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s PGA event, The Barclays, live from Sedgefield. Selections.
The excitement level is likely to reach fever pitch in New York with Tiger Woods (8/1, Betfred) and Rory Mcllroy (8/1, BetVictor) playing together in the opening round of The Barclays as joint market leaders. It is easy to understand why Rory should be clear favourite but Tiger will have plenty of support on a course he won the 2002 US Open.
The field is 125 strong with the top 75 in the Fedex standings moving on to next week in Boston ensuring action throughout the field. Sergio Garcia produced a heroic performance last week to earn a place in next months European Ryder Cup Team and leave Ian Poulter hoping for a wildcard again! He should be ok this time. Garcia will be popular at 28/1 with William Hill for a follow up.
Coral are taking a big chance with their 30/1 on Lee Westwood; this course will suit him perfectly but once again his chances will come down to the putting and at this price he is worth taking a chance with. At the bigger prices, Hunter Mahan, who has just missed out on an automatic Ryder Cup spot, is 55/1 at Stan James and has a far better chance than his odds suggest.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
