Live on Skysports 1 & 3: Thu 10.00 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Irish Open and the AT&T National. Selections.
The Irish Open will draw huge crowds at Royal Portrush this week and Rory Mcllroy at 7/1 (Coral) and Graeme McDowell 10/1 (Skybet), along with Darren Clarke at 66/1 (BetVictor), are the main attractions but it is Padraig Harrington at 12/1 via Betfred who, in my view, is the one they all have to beat this week.
Harrington could easily have won a 4th Major in the recent US Open and is clearly playing really well at present after a quiet time and will be hard to beat on a links course he loves.
Simon Dyson looks great value at 33/1 with William Hill to put up a bold defence of his title while Ross Fisher at 18/1 (Totepool) will be on a high after qualifying for The Open on Monday. Branden Grace continues to be underestmated by bookies and at 35/1 has to be included in this weeks portfolio, courtesy of Paddy Power.
Tiger Woods is a huge puzzle to punters at present – you cannot guess what’s coming next – but at 11/2 with Boylesports is worth a saver in this week’s AT&T National at Congressional, venue of last years US Open.
I like Ryan Palmer at 33/1 here (Ladbrokes) along with last year’s Players Winner KJ Choi at 40/1 (bet365) as two decent each way selections.
The Open at Royal Lytham approaches and be sure to keep an eye on the markets, Tiger Woods currently leads at 7/1 with BetVictor but that price may shorten with success at the AT&T.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
