Luke Donald beat Lee Westwood in a playoff last year to become World Number 1 in the BMW PGA at Wentworth and these two head the market once again at 8/1 (Paddy Power) and 11/1 (Boylesports) respectively.
Lee Westwood appeals more at the bigger price and is surely only one good putting week away from running away with a big event. Luke Donald will be popular each way at 8/1 as he always seems to be in contention and after costing bookies who paid 6th place in the recent Players Championship, most offer the useful extra 6th place concession again.
American Ben Curtis is the one who catches my eye this week at 30/1 with BetVictor. Curtis has returned to form this year and will be ideally suited to the demands of Wentworth.
Ernie Els made the changes to Wentworth and his game is in better shape this year than for a while. At 33/1 with Coral, Els looks worth a small intrest while Padraig Harrington, who does not always play here, is gradually returning to form and I think this is a perfect venue for his game and at 45/1 he is a huge price via Skybet.
Of the bigger prices Anders Hansen is too big at 50/1 (bet365) while Robert Rock – a winner in Abu Dhabi earlier in the year where he showed he can mix it with the best – is a huge price at 100/1 (William Hill) but Ben Curtis is my choice to thwart the Europeans on home soil.
Zach Johnson heads the market at 14/1 with Sportingbet for Crowne Plaza Invitational, also known as The Colonial, and has an obvious chance while Rickie Fowler at 16/1 (Totesport) can follow up his Quail Hollow triumph with another good showing here.
Ben Crane, who made a great start in The Players before missing the cut, is worth another chance this week at Ladbrokes’ 40/1 while Jonathon Byrd looks the value of the bigger prices at 66/1 (Paddy Power).
It looks a great week of Golf on both sides of Atlantic for Golf Punters.
