Live on SS2: Thu 18.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s WGC Cadillac C’ship and the Puerto Rico Open. Selections.
I cannot recall a big event outside The Majors which is being looked forward to as much as this week’s Cadillac Championship in Doral, Miami.
Rory McIlroy heads a star cast field and has been made 13/2 fav by Totesport to follow up his Honda Classic win last Sunday which took him to World Number 1 at just 22. The price has been popular and although the young Irishman has reached the top in deserved fashion he may well be worth taking on this week.
I like the chances of Tiger Woods at 7/1 with Ladbrokes who are offering 1/4 odds the first 5 places and I will be very suprised if Tiger is not in the mix on Sunday night. Woods had a superb final Round of 62 when runner up on Sunday at the Honda Classic and Doral’s Blue Monster is a course where he is a multiple winner and suits his game in every department. This looks a great bet to me.
Phil Mickleson also loves Doral and will be popular at 14/1 (BetVictor) and Lee Westwood at the same price with Boylesports will also be popular and he, like Woods, had a fine finish at The Honda with a closing 63.
Dustin Johnson, runner up here last year, will have his backers at 28/1 (Skybet) while it is a long time since Luke Donald has been available to be backed at 28/1, with bet365.
Keegan Bradley will be suited by Doral and looks overpriced by Paddy Power at 50/1 while Alvaro Quiros looks the outsider really overpriced at 110 (William Hill). Paul Lawrie, who has had a great last 6 months, will be insulted by his 150/1 odds at BetVictor and could go well this week.
By comparison the Puerto Rico Open is very low key with Ryder Cupper Jeff Overton 18/1 Betfred’s market leader, in a low profile betting heat I like Brandt Jobe at 40/1 (Ladbrokes) and Troy Matteson at 66/1 each way (Totesport) in an open looking event.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
