Up against a Chelsea defence that has more leaks than a blind plumber’s bathroom they’ll have plenty of opportunity to keep that run going. In the Championship Nigel Pearson began his second spell at Leicester with an impressive 3-0 home win against Crystal Palace. They say you should never go back in football, but I believe that saying is more appropriately applied to displays of aviation.
Portsmouth, meanwhile, began life under their new manager with a 2-0 defeat against Watford last Saturday. Michael Appleton’s first home game as Pompey manager comes this Saturday against The Foxes and I’m predicting back-to-back defeats for the former West Brom coach. Kilmarnock v Rangers: Scottish Premier League: Sunday: 12:45
North of the border Rangers dropped points for just the third time this season after a goalless draw at home to St Johnstone last Saturday. The result allowed Celtic to close the gap at the top to seven points and breath a little life into the SPL title race.
With The Hoops – which incidentally has to be one of the most unimaginative nicknames in football – can close that gap to four points on Saturday but I expect Rangers will extend it again on Sunday when they meet Kilmarnock.
Killie – damn these nicknames are imaginative, where do they get their inspiration – have won only one of their nine games against teams above them in the league, while Rangers have won all seven of their SPL away games this term.
